Meeting the Mentalist

Meeting the Mentalist

The human body is a marvel of biochemical engineering. The brain is its enigmatic master controller. Doctors and scientists haven’t even scratched the surface of how the human body and brain work. It’s only arrogance and ignorance to pretend we’ve figured it out.

This summer I had the pleasure of meeting Uri Geller at his eclectic museum in the old city of Jaffa, just outside Tel Aviv, Israel. Uri was well known in the UK when I was growing up there in the 1970s and 80s. He had lived in the UK for many years and was often on TV. I just remembered he could bend spoons with his mind but Uri is so much more.

The skeptics among you may scoff as have many over the years. But Uri has been studied and accepted as the real deal by the CIA and Mossad (the Israeli equivalent). Check out the 13min video link below of Uri’s time at the Stanford Research Institute in the early 1970s.

My family and I were lucky to spend 2 hours with this engaging personality, hearing the stories of his rather extraordinary life. His gift has given him the opportunity to meet so many other interesting characters over the years such Pele and Maradona (he’s a big football fan), Elvis, John Lennon, Colonel Gaddafi (of Libya), Salvador Dali, Michael Jackson, Princess Diana and Elton John to name a few. Overcoming a tough childhood and various traumas Uri used his personality to “change his stars”. While he’s a self-admitted showman capitalizing on his abilities it doesn’t change the appreciation of a life lived to the fullest.

Best of all Uri is fit and well into his late 70s bounding around the museum like a man half his age. With all the questionable platforms some personalities choose to stand on, it was wholly refreshing to meet this all round good human being who God chose to endow with a fascinating gift.
